Suncé Winery Victorious in Sizzling Bocce League Playoffs

Suncé Winery took the first place honors in a three-game match that went down to the wire against Crazy Eights.
Suncé claimed victory in a final 12-11 point game. Final scores - 12-5, 8-12, 12-11

"I think everyone was impressed with the caliber of play. Many points went back and forth in extremely tight clusters," says Santa Rosa Bocce League President and Founder, Robert Battaile.

It was an endurance match as the hundred-plus temperatures were relentless in the league's inaugural Playoffs.
The League started its first season on April 20, 2009. Monty Montague, one of the initial Santa Rosa bocce proponents and builders of the Juilliard Park bocce courts dropped by for a visit. He was looking good and especially enjoying the fact that a few of his Juilliard regulars were playing on the Crazy Eights team in the Finals.

Team Captain and Owner of Suncé Winery, Frane Franicevic along with the entire team proudly accepted the
trophy and medals. The trophy is a perpetual one which will be engraved with the team name and have each season's winning teams addedas the years continue. At some point we'll find a good public display spot. Of course, Suncé will always have the extra cachet of being the first ever Santa Rosa Bocce League winner.

All the scores and the Final Standings are here.

The Squadra Italiana narrowly beat the Incrediballs to claim victory over the Incrediballs. "I am heartbroken," say Team Capo, Robert Battaile "but the trophy will look good at the sponsoring North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation's office."

Crazy Eights topple the Allstars in Regional Cliffhanger

Crazy Eights took home the trophy in a match that included teams from Sonoma, Marin and Benicia plus the Spring League Winners, Suncé Winery and our own Santa Rosa Allstars. We had some home turf advantage, especially against Marin who plays on artificial turf much like playing on a pool table. We have open invitations from our neighbors and are planning a trip to San Rafael on a Friday soon.

Once again, President RB missed out on a trophy by a mere one point. After considering suicide, he decide to play in the Fall Series instead.

We presented to the Board of Community Services
who approved the concept and await the drawings.
