"Yountvillains" defeat the "Santa Rosa Allstars"
to win 2nd Regional Exhibition Match

From a field of six teams, the "Yountvillains" (from Yountville, St. Helena and Napa) beat Santa Rosa Bocce League's "Allstars" to claim the victory in the final match. The second Regional tourney hosted by Santa Rosa in its first year of league play featured six teams ~ Sonoma's "Prima" - Martinez "Rolling Thunder" - San Rafael's "D'Boccery" and Santa Rosa's Fall League Winners, the "Crazy Eights."

League President gives the engraved trophy ball to the "Yountvillains."

"It was a beautiful day in Juilliard Park and the teams were well matched. Three teams finished 3-2 and three teams were 2-3." said League President, Robert Battaile. "Just four points separated the third place team from the second place Allstars. Sonoma played a strong game against Martinez and that made the difference." There was a spirit of comraderie throughout the day, but "there was a definite change about half-way thru as the frivolity lessened, a quiet took over and all the measurements were closely watched."

Watch the slideshow and enjoy the action. The Spring League will be starting before long and we expect to reach 18 teams. Some of the other cities we played have had leagues for over twenty years. We held up well considering this was our first year. San Rafael (Marin Bocce League) has ten courts and league play five nights and three mornings a week. Martinez has 150 teams playing on 15 courts. "Martinez has a population of 37,000 - so we should have four times a many teams as they do!" challenges Battaile.

The League is exploring the prospect of building additional courts at either the "A Place to Play" Park or Doyle Park. "We need to be somewhere that we can have lights. Both of these other places are 'community parks' with less restrictions. It will take a fundraising effort on our part, but the City has been very supportive of our efforts. The League has over 150 members now and the enthusiasm of the participants is downright inspiring!"
